Spa day at Hotel Galvez

January 16, 2017

My mom has been really helping me out these past two months with the babies, so I wanted to treat her to a massage at the Hotel Galvez. I came here once before for a bachelorette party and loved it. This time I took my mom for a day of rest and relaxation.

The spa is located in the historic Hotel Galvez. The service and attention to detail was excellent. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable.

When I first arrived, the receptionist checked us in and escorted us to an area to complete paperwork. Once we were done, the spa attendant, Pam, offered us lavender champagne and showed us to the locker room.

My first impression was that it was clean and well kept with lots of amenities and products. There is also a eucalyptus (ahhh) steam room with chilled towels and showers in the back. All you have to do is bring a change of clothes and everything else is provided.

Once we changed into our robe and spa slippers, Pam was waiting for us outside the door. She walked us down the hall to the relaxation lounge, and situated us onto two lounge chairs. She went above and beyond by draping plush blankets over us and wrapping a warm pillow around our necks. If that’s not enough, they even have chilled cucumber slices to refresh your eyes.

Once we felt really relaxed, it was time for our massages. The spa requests that you come 30 minutes early to enjoy the amenities. Next time I’m coming an hour earlier!

Another thing I like about this spa is that they have special massage tables for pregnant or women who nurse. The table has a hole in the belly part, so a pregnant woman can comfortably lay face down. The top area is also made of memory foam, so you have extra cushion. This would have been such a prenatal treat had I known about it before.

My massage therapist was Melissa, and she was wonderful. She asked me about problem areas, incorporated stretching and continually made sure the pressure was perfect. She also used warm towels throughout the massage, and added a heated neck pillow. She addressed my problem areas while still making sure the massage was relaxing.

The room below is the couples spa suite.

After our massage, I was offered another glass of champagne (yes, please!) and water. We headed down to the relaxation garden and sat in complete silence while listening to the fountain.

In conclusion, the overall experience was well worth it because of the service, amenities and attention to detail. The spa prices are reasonable for what you get.  The facility is large enough to host parties where everyone can find a seat in the lounge without feeling overcrowded. There is also a gym and hotel pool available for spa guest.

Make sure to ask about the monthly spa specials. I didn’t notice this until I was checking out. You can find them on their website below:
