The George- Kimpton Hotel review

June 19, 2016

We truly enjoy traveling with our chihuahua Parker, and heard that the Kimpton brand hotels are super dog friendly. We had the opportunity to stay at the The George on a recent stay in D.C. This hotel was perfect for us since it’s located in Capitol Hill and within walking distance to Union Station. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was the smiling concierge and friendly staff at the front desk, not to mention the George Washington decorated lobby.

Check-in
We arrived to the hotel around 12pm, and the front desk attendant informed us that normal check-in is at 3pm, and that our room was not ready yet. However, she would ask housekeeping to priority clean our room to be ready within an hour. That gave us time to stretch our legs and grab some lunch. The concierge gentleman gave Parker a tasty treat and belly rub. He was quite happy! Once we got back an hour later, our room was ready.

First impression
As soon as we walked into the room, we immediately felt relaxed and comfortable. They had a handwritten welcome note and a welcome area for Parker which included treats, bowls and a comfy bed. The extra touches were thoughtful and much appreciated. The room had a small mini bar with snacks and various drinks.

The Room
The room was nicely decorated in navy blue, and spacious enough to accommodate a king size bed, desk, chair/ottoman and bar area. The bathroom was also spacious and nice since it had a stand up shower, tub, and large vanity.  It had a modern feel with white linens and George Washington themed accents.

Amenities
There is a 24 hour gym in the building for those that don’t want their work-out schedule disrupted. Peek into your closet to find a yoga mat in your room to stretch out those muscles after a long day of working or touring sites. Also, make sure to take advantage of the relaxing in-room spa service after a tough work-out. They provide spa like amenities that included lavender shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There were also Qtips, cotton balls and soap on the vanity in case you forgot anything. Once you are ready to socialize and relax even more, don’t forget to stop by the complimentary Social Hour down at the lobby for free wine every evening from 5-6pm!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The George- Kimpton. The main highlights was the excellent customer service, Social Hour, pets stay for free, free Karma rewards perks and convenient location. I typically stay at large corporation hotels, so staying at a boutique hotel was a nice change. I felt a more personal vibe and extra effort in service goes a long way.

Average hotel night $ 249

Enjoy!
